Drone is going to be a very popular gift and toy, as it’s not only a toy, but a high-tech product actually. With more and more affordable price and easier operations, it helps all of us enjoy the great fun of flying, and let our flying dream come true. However, we believe one of the major factors that will go into your decision is cost, and cost means what functions you will get from a drone, to some extent.
We realize that a Toy Drone has more and more functions now, and each function may be marketed by supplier as a "selling point", which is directly used to increase the cost in the market to sell the product. However, many people find some of the functions very meaningless by over-marketing after getting it. Franking speaking, if we don’t know enough about the functions on this high-tech toy, we may eventually find that this is not a satisfied business as high price paid, but uninterested products got for the market finally.
Therefore, before we start to touch the business of toy drone, we must understand which functions a toy drone can give consumers and this market the most satisfactory. We need to know totally the reason that, it’s because which functions the toy drone has, to attract consumers to buy finally.
Based on our 10-years experience in this field, and a 3-month discussion with our main 15 customers by our marketing team, we can share the result of following five functions which the end-consumers most concern about. (these functions are the preconditions that the consumers will choose to buy )
1) Altitude hold (normally with one key take-off/landing)
A feature that is becoming more and more common for a toy drone. Altitude hold is simply the ability of a drone to hold itself in one location in space. For example, if you take-off and hover the drone off the ground, you can let go of your controller and the drone will hold that altitude and location while compensating for any external factors that might try and move it, such as wind.
Why it’s useful– Learning to fly a drone should take a process. There is nothing more reassuring than having the ability to let go of the controller and take a second to think about your next step. The drone will stay right where you left it until you are ready to move. It’s obviously much more friendly for a drone beginner to fly and enjoy their first few flights.
2)Long-Fly-Time
It means that a drone can fly at least 20 minutes, from full-charge of power to land finally by end-of-battery. But actually the toy drone is difficult to achieve such fly time as considered the cost and structure of the toy drone itself. It requires a series of factors including a drone’s weight, size, structure, drive system, battery power, and most important the cost. So we can see the average fly time for toy drone in the market is about 7-10 minutes.
Why it’s useful– Imagine that consumer is ecstatic to buy a toy drone, ready to experience the fun of flying, and his fly dream in childhood will be come true. After a long wait until it fully charged, and he find he could only play for 7 minutes. And because he is the beginner and not familiar with the operation, with the intermittent flying, he never enjoy the 7 minutes flying actually. Then he can be only very disappointed to meet the long charging time again. Very sad story we get here!
Herein we also want to point out that, frequent charging could possibly lead to safety issues, such as premature aging problem for USB charging wire or Li-battery of the drone. So why would not buy one if it fly well, with same/similar cost to the others, but with double fly times or even longer, to have full enough fun times with your family members or friends?
3)WIFI camera
Every toy drone (with WIFI cam function) has its own WIFI signal, just download the APP, connect the WIFI of the mobile phone with the signal on drone, open the APP, then you can activate the WIFI camera for real-time transmission. You can see the first-view film from where the drone flies, and you can make pictures and videos (functions on APP now are much more than this, you can even throw away the controller, just use the APP from your mobile phone to control the drone, and perform many others functions)
Why it’s useful-WIFI camera can be said to be a feature that makes a toy drone more technological and attractive. Although this feature is already very common, it still makes the end-consumer really feel, hey, This is what a drone should do! Take out your mobile phone, turn on the APP, connect to WIFI, whether you are in the backyard of your home or traveling, enjoy God’s perspective and take pictures and videos anytime and anywhere, keeping every good moment of our own.
4)Headless Mode
Headless mode makes this drone easier for beginners to fly, because there is no specified “front end” or “rear end.” In Headless Mode, when you bank left, the drone banks left, when you bank right, the drone banks right, regardless of what direction the drone is facing.
Why it’s useful- The beginner will be hard to recognize the direction of the drone to control it, and the drone would be possible to lose control and damage suddenly. With this function, he is no longer need to focus on which direction the head of drone forwards to.Just concentrate on enjoying his flying fun.
5)Low-battery warning
When the drone is close to the power limit (generally 1 min before end-of-battery), it will have warnings such as flashing lights or buzzing from the controller, to remind the player to prepare to land it slowly and need to charge the Li-battery for your toy.
Why it’s useful- Imagine how sad it would be if, the drone suddenly landing without any warning while we enjoying the flying fun ? And we must point out that, it never protect the life of a Li-battery from accelerated aging if kept running out of battery as without any warnings.
So these are the 5 most important functions for a toy drone as we mentioned, and other functions can only be said the extra surprises for us. Is it very useful for you if planned to start your toy drone business and set up strategy in this field? If it is, please comment and forward this article. Your support will make me more motivated. I will continue to share my knowledge and experience accumulated for more than 10 years in the field of RC drones.
